Rc.4 part two. Rc4 1255-1322

GC Rc4 1137
Another day, another unit as power for the daily midtrain freight from Mora.

GC Rc4 1137
It is close to noon in 8. March 2006 as the first Rc4 ever constructed is coasting in to the yard of Mora with a unit train of empty wood chip cars. Right at the station a Intercity train is getting to roll as Rc4 will have a bit of work in form of switching before having a break and return south with the general freight.

Few days later , the 15. of March 2006 the same unit was back in Mora. This time to take a south bound unit train of timber to south.

GC Rc4 1137
The story is about the same as above. same unit with same train but the date is March 2004.

GC Rc 4 1138
It is 2.nd of July and a weekend rest for Rc4 1138 at the engine terminal of Borlänge.

GC Rc 4 1138
Rc4 1138 is the unually enough the sole power for the midday mixed freight out of Mora. The lenghty consist and the curving main line will be a little of a work out for this veteran.
Mora 2009-03-17.

GC Rc 4 1139
The hot summer may be over and it is a pretty cloudy day, but it is pretty warm for the season. But you do notice that it is getting colder and the wind is nasty and cold. Still the paper mills need to be feeded with timber and GC makes a good business of this service and GC Rc4 1139 is ready to roll once it gets its window out of Mora in 12th of October 2006.

GC Rc 4 1139
The summer is over and so is the fall of 2006, though early January the weather looks a lot mora fall than midwinter. Here GC4 1139 is in charge with a timber train from Mora. Mora 2007-01-08.

The most largest group of Rc.s are the RC4.s and together with Rc2.s haul the vast majority of the freights in Sweden. Some of the older Rc2.s are used as cabcars in the mass transit trains in Stockholm area. Rc4 1141 during the weekend lull in Borlänge.
GC Rc 4 1141
It is 11.th of March 2006, the weather is bit of cold and it has been a heavy snow fall. GC Rc4 is enjoying some time of among sisters at Borlänge engine terminal.

CG Rc 4 1142
It is a monday morning and the spring has advanced a bit to the point that the sun is up and going before I begin work. Cool, as it does give a bit of variation in terms of lighting. Well, back to the show, as Rc2 1142 is waiting the green signal to leave with a solid set of wood chips. Mora, 7th of March 2005.

CG Rc 4 1142
In winter of 2007, the numbers of blue bandits declining, still there are common, but does not look as pretty as they used to and her is one example of that, Rc4 1142 with a hot shot waitng for its turn to take over the main line. Mora 2007-02-14.

CG Rc 4 1144
At the engine terminal in Borlange you will finf usually a lot of action but as it is Easter, the big yard has come to a stand still. Among the engines enjoying a rest is Rc4 1144. Borlange 2007-04-07.

CG Rc 4 1144
It is spring allready according to the callender but still winter like though it is well in to March. The combined efforts of Rc4 1144 and the repainted sister Rc4 1281 is waiting their turn on the main line with a very long consist of timber products and pulpwood. Mora 2009-03-09

GG Rc4 1147
RC4 1147 at the engine terminal in Borlänge in 29th of June is enjoying a rest in the hot summer day.
GC Rc 4 1148
Another unit shot at the weekend lull of 2.nd July 2004. By this date I could not see any GC Rc.s in the original orange and many units wore the Blue Bandit scheme. But many units start to appaer in the GC.s own green livery.

GC Rc 4 1148
During the February 2005 Green gargo settled into a rather interesting way of operating freights to and from Mora. The northern freights were combined in to a rather lengthy consist of mostly empites pulled by two Rc units. Once in Mora the engines split and were coupled each to new consists southbound. First to leave was the "Lunch Break Special" followed a hour later by the not so hot unit timber train.

GC Rc 4 1148
Snow storm
It is time for snow storm, with a lot of snow and strong winds. The Rc.s like many of electrics have it tough on these conditions. The first green repainted unit, Rc2 1082 has been stranded withits train at the yard, fortunally. As the weather goes from bad to worse Rc4 1148 is struggling against the tonnage and the friction from the cold with not only 1082.s train but also its own consist, which is fortunally enough pretty short.

GC Rc4 1149
The Rc4 is once again photographed in a double header, this time with a repainted Rc4 1307 in hand of a heavy steal train. The units were caught in a sunny sunday 12. February in Bollnäs. Bollnäs is still a busy spot for trains, but the three!! roundhouses and a vacated back shop tell that the yard was much busier some 50 years ago.
CG Rc 4 1150
The rainy and dark day in early January, once again GC has used the tactics of a joined power on the north bound train only to split in to two on th return trip from Mora. GC Rc4 1150 is in charge of a very short, just 6 car long consist of "Lunch Break Special". Mora 2007-01-08.

CG Rc 4 1151
The Rc 1151 in Mora 23. of February 2006 with a mixed freight. This freight seem to be the only scheduled freight as the others sem to be run extra when the the track is clear and on customers demands. This set of images were taken on an access road which was cleared during February and the surface is sthen strong enough to handle a car or a light truck. During spring and fall the road is a rut of mud, while during the summer allmost a meadow.

GC Rc 4 1152
It is time for a holliday in Sweden and Rc4 1152 just rolled in to the engine tracks after a day of duty. Still many engines in 2012 are in blue bandit scheme though more and more have been repainted in green. Borlänge 2012-04-05.

GC Rc2 1153 is sitting unpatiently for the signal to turn green and the engine is ready to roll with todays edition January 5. 2005 from Mora to Borlänge. First a regional train set of X50 will get a go and after few minutes the light turns green for the freight.

CG Rc 4 1154
After a runaround in Mora 14th May, the GC Rc4 1153 is coupled to the T44 406 and a timbertrain for a run to south .

CG Rc 4 1156
It is time to go to work for GC Rc4 1156 and a sister unit Rc2 1031 on 12th February 2005 at Borlänge. Today it will probably haul a heavy train, which I don't know as the darkness comes quickly during this time of year.

GC Rc 4 1159
In January the lunch breaks got a bit busier as the Lunch Break Specialwas no longer the star of the activities in Mora just after noon during the work days. About the same time was also a unit train of timber getting ready to switch consists from unloaed cars to the waiting loaded, loacted at very western end of the yard. Todays power, 26th January 2005 Rc 4 1159 is waiting for the general freight to depart and after that the consist will full attention of the T44 and its switching crew.

It is rather pleasent early spring afternoon we are back at the engien terminal in Borlänge. One of the resting units was Rc4 1161. Borlänge 23. March 2006.

GC Rc 4 1162
It is another monday again, the 21. of February 2005 and Rc4 1162 is all ready to leave Mora with a unit train of timber. The cars on the neighbouring track are from the trainset which this unit pulled from the south together with a sister unit Rc 4 1256.

The current operation with a combined north bound freights and the switching of two southbound trains has given the lunch break a bit more action.

GC Rc 4 1162
It is Lunch break time and the hot mid day freight is hauled today by GC Rc4 1162. The weather is still unpredictable, and at least you can say varied from cold to snow melting temperature and occational storms.
Mora 2007-01-17.

GC Rc 4 1162

A serie of photos of a freight starting to roll from Mora on 13 of March 2007. The mix of one Blue bandit and new green repaint is now very common.

In other words the numbers green repaints are increasing while the numbers ofBlue Bandits is degreasing. Now as both Green Gargo and Sj are repainting their engines the blue paint that costed a lot of tax payers money is not longer in vogue. A lesseon is to be learned here, it is so much easier spend money that is not yours.

TGOJ Ma 963-GC Rc4 1192
You could say that it is a bit of revenge or victory for this 52 year old vetran as it is MU.ed as a lead unit for a southbound "Lunch Break Special" in the last days of November 2011. But the reason is that Green Cargo is short of units during the Rd-class conversion of their aging fleet of RC2 and Rc3 units. This has pressed any available unit found for freight duties, raging from Rc1.s to even leased units like DB Shenker Scandinavias engine of Br 185.2 class (Photos of this unit can be found else where on this site). Still this unit leased by TGOJ is not far off as this version was a SJ unit, proofed by the squere mchine room windows and higher road numbers as their original TGOJ sisters had round windows and still have road numbers starting from 400 and up. Wjat was a complete suprise to me was that the Rc unit and the Ma could be operated in a lash up. Note on the last photo the Rc4 1162 was just about loosing the rim which was holding one of the head lights, which I brought to the engineers attention.

GC Rc 4 1163
In the sixth day of November 2003, Rc4 1163 has just arrived with a rather short consist of the daily afternoon freight. The cars on the next track is waiting to be coupled to the engine after a run a round trip back to Borlänge.

The train was double headed back to Borlänge with Rc2 1066 on the lead.

Just a day before Christmas eve 2003, Rc 4 1173 is waiting patiently to signal to turn green at Mora yard for departure with afternoon general freight for Borlänge.

GC Rc 4 1173
It seems that I got a thing with Rc4 1173 and Christmass time as once again I encounrtered the unit close to the Holidays. This time around She and a sister hauled a hot container run with a sisterunit and now they are waiting for their chance to enter the main line so they will head to the main engine terminal at Hagalund north west of the city.

GC Rc 4 1176 is this day in charge of hauling a timber caught here in Ånge. 31. May 2004.

GC Rc 4 1174
Spring is here, and March was absolute fantastic. It was pretty warm for the season and that snow was getting old and fast. It is lunch time and Green Gargo show time. Rc4 1174 and a repainted sister are ready to roll with a combined freight of mixed freight and timber.

GC Rc 4 1177
It is time to work for RC 4 1177 as it is in charge of the todays version of daily mixed in Mora on 7th March 2005.

GC Rc 4 1177
Little more than 4 years since the last spotting, much is the same but there have been a few a changes in appearnace on Rc3 1177.The location is same, though it is late spring in May and the unit is rebuilt to a remote control road switcher and besides the platforms on the sides, also received a diagonal stripe. Mora 2009-05-13.

GC Rc 4 1177
It seems like the Green Cargos Rc4 1177 will not have that busy day today as it will be a passanger on the return trip behind a rare bird in Dalecarlia,a DB Schenker Scandinavias Br 185 405-5. The red unit will pull the entire consist to Borlänge and the trip to north earlier did not make the elderly unit pull much of its muscle as it hauled an empty timber train.

Though it is a sunny day in March it is barely over 0 degrees Celsius, but in the sun you can actually feel the warm sensation of th rays. Spring is late this year! Anyway, it is soon time for departure for Green Gargos "Lunch Break Special" and the cars in the background is the consist the ngine brought up to Mora in 24.th of March 2006.
GC Rc 4 1180
The work is done and the Rc 4 1180 is parked outside the engine terminal of Borlänge in July 2003.

GG Rc4 1180
One of the nicest features with my new camera Canon EOS 300D is not that I get more sharper images than before but also that i can shoot series of images as these where a double headed freight with two GC blue Bandits with Rc4 1180 on the lead leans in acurve before diving a tunnel under the ladder tracks on the south end of the Borlänge yard in 29th of June 2005.

The train seem to be a high priority freight with TOFC.s but also on the train is a few oversized containers od what I guess is loaded with paper rolls for the ports in out or west Sweden.

Borlänge yard is a rather large site with a lot of activity, but in some areas hard to access for photographing. This means that you are not likely to cover everything as the area is vast and it is a very busy yard. I have four regular spots all safe from the tracks behind a fence, depending on sunlight.

GC Rc 4 1180
In winter of 2008-2009 Green Cargo stationed a pair of units in Mora which may have been reserve power if there were failing engines. But it alsom may have been results of the rather severe winter condions and changes in traffic pattern Here two remote control units, Rc4 1180 and green repainted sister RC4 1196 is sitting in the yard of Mora. It is a weekend during the final weekend of the vacation and soon the freight trains on the Swedish rail net work will pick up in to normal once again. The action at the huge freight yard at Ånge is pretty slow, just a few passanger runs a few freights so I took the change to shoot a few parked engines. Since 2006 the engine has gone trough a few changes like the addition of switching platforms and the remote control for one man crews.

GC Rc 4 1183
It is 1. April 2005 and it is GC Rc4 1183.s turn to take the daily freight south. It was common to use Rc2.s on freight services in southern part of Sweden, whie the newer Rc4. in north, but today they are fairly mixed through out the country.

The demand of timber is great to the huge paper mills in south of Mora. And in the end of the winter the timber hauling companies are being even more busier than ever to get all the timber out before the ground thaws. GC Rc 4 1184
Time to run out from the busy yard of Mora with a mid day combined heavy freight. The rebuilt, yet not repainted Rc4 1184 is teaming up with a unmodified yet older sister, Rc2 1071 out on the line, once the signal turns green after a Regina consist of daily regional train arrives on the single tracked line. GC Rc 4 1184

Just barely a month later Rc 4 1164 is back town. The spring is here too and I guess there is far less friction on the wheels ofthe train now as the temperature is a lot nicer too. The load is the same but the team maate is another remote control unit, the green painted Rc4 1270. Mora 2009-04-23.

GC Rc 4 1185
In 25th of February the rail service sees a perhaps the most busiest day in the year, as it marks the beginning of the annual Vasa Ski Run week and the first day includes a special train. But the freight business is not affected much though as the number of available tracks are reduced and the sleepers are populated. Here we see the unit during a runaround move to its consist of the daily general freight. See more of this train by clicking here

After arriving with a freight RC4 1186 and its Rc2 sister calls for the day in Borlänge engine terminal.

A record short afternoon freight of only a hand ful freight cars in Mora caught 7. of January 2004. The night before there was a heavy snow storm that continued through the morning. Still there was a plenty of that white stuff to be cleared from the yard. Snow causes a lot of extra work and delays in the services, though snow during the winter is not exactly uncommon un Sweden.

At the service track in Borlänge terminal Rc4 1194 is being serviced or at least getting some attention. Borlänge 13. May 2006

GC Rc 4 1195
The earlier SJ blue paint is starting to look rather gritty in 2012 and there is a rather massive rebuilding program on the aging fleet of Rc-engines underway. Still many of the older units are modified with switching platforms and remote control to stramline the costs of operation. Here Rc4 1195 was sitting in the yard at Ånge. Ånge 2012-08-04.
SJ T44s and Rc 4 1196
A look at the early 1990s.
It is amaizing how time changes, Here is a view fråm Rättvik in the early 1990.es, the Rc4 1196 is sitting in the hole in the yars, waiting for the pulwoodtrain powered by usual set of pair of T44.s. Today, the Rc is propably either in blue or green paint, the T44.s on timbertrain are replaced by a Rc. The yard was "cleaned up" from unused rail, so all those sidings barely visible here are gone too.

GC Rc 4 1196
Some twenty years later the unit is as all engines assigned to freight service are now Green Cargo property. Also more and more units are repainted to current green. Here an early repaint is starting to show how the green scheme will turn out as the engine iis weathered, while accelarating out of Mora with a timber train. The shot was taken while I drove my car, kids don't try this at home... Mora 15/1 2006

GC Rc 4 1196
Now adays it is just as common to see green apnited Green Cargo units as it is to see the blue bandits. One observation is that more and more units have been converted to remote control road switchers. Mora 2009-02-24.

GC Rc 4 1198
In last day of May 2004, the unit Rc4 1198 sitting parked at the yard of Ånge.

GC Rc4 1198 & Rc2 1115
I guess that this unit, GC rc4 1198 is still one of the very few road switcher converted Rc.s decked out in the new green. Though the number of these converts has increased, it is uncommon to see a double header of road switchers here in Mora. A nice treat is to see them in different paint jobs.

Mora 2007-01-18.

GC Rc 4 1198
It is getting closer to Mya and the leaves is sprung out in the valleys and I guess the engineer on this consist will have a rather pleasent trip to Borlänge. The consist is lead ny a Blue Bandit, Rc4 1164 and the repainted rc4 1198 is the second unit. Mora 2009-04-29.

GC Rc4 1199?
One of the bad things aout the old, original scheme is the fact it is a bitch to read the engine numbers when the engine gets filthie. Anyway as a clue, it is remote controlable, as you can see from the extra diagonal stripe, and I guess, I said I guess it is RC 4 1199. Note that ta number of RC-controlled engines received same switching platforms at the corners as the heavy swithcers of Rc1.s, though the engines are still considered as road units.
Date & place? 09-08-2003 at Ånge.

GC Rc4 1199
In May 2004, the unit wears the green paintwhile it sits parked at the yard of Östersund. The unit still wears switching platforms, though it is a road unit.

The only Green GC unit that day was this Rc 1251 among its bandit sisters.

GC Rc 4 1251
Waiting for the arrival of the noon regional Regina, the green painted GC Rc4 1251 looks a bit more grimy than seen at the photo above. The post Christmas freight business has not yet picked up. Just an empty tank car and three loads, one using articulated all door car in the middle of the consist. Normally this train is about 15 to 25 cars, consisting of one or two empty tank cars, all door box cars and a number of open types of cars, loaded wuth various timber products. Occationally a few loads of wood chips are filled in as well.
Though normally the wood chips are hauled on separate unit trains. Mora 8. January 2004.

GC Rc 4 1251
In Borlänge it is pretty clear that the numbers of repainted GC Rc.s are ever increasing and fast. Among the repainted units, Rc4 1251 is caught off duty in Borlänge in 13. May 2006.

GC Rc 4 1252
The green painted GC Rc 4 1252 is seen here during its run around move to be coupled todays edition of the "Lunch Break Special". Note that this rather high numbered unit still has its original pilots though been painted to the new green livery. The unit in other words adds a bit of interest and variation in the informal power of the Swedish mainlines
GC Rc4 1253
GC Rc4 1253 is leaving Mora with a train of pulpwood in february 22.th in 2003.

GC Rc 4 1254
The orange is not in vougue on Rc.s in 2004 as GC repainted the unit and in 20th May it was leading an empty steel train in Borlänge. This serie of images shows the train waiting at the red signal and finaly pulling out from the passanger tracks.
Rc 4 1254
Rc engines in somewhat original colors are harder and harder to find in 2003. Anyway, in 4.th of July, at Borlänge I caught a couple like this Rc4 1254.

Rc 4 1254
In early March following year that was history, sporting new green paint the Rc4 1254 was found sitting in a hole in Storvik yard. It was bound for a meeting with a empty pulpwood unit train. So I guess the engineer went for lunch. After finishing the lunch he phone to the agent and took small digital camera and shot a pic of his unit. I hope that his image turned out OK. These are mine, shot in 4. of March 2004 at Storvik.
