Green Cargo Rc.2

One this section I have lost a lot data, which may not be recovered, and there for the comments are rather sparse compared to the other pages. But I will slowly restore the images back to the website, there are quite a few and will take some time. Sad but true!

(freight units)

To the first section, Rc2 1027-1035

GC Rc 2 1086
In March 2004 also Rc2 1086 was visiting Mora with another edition of "Lunch Break Special".

GC Rc 2 1087
It is late winter, stil a bitter cold, though much of the cold temperature has been relieved by clouds, which predicts more snow. One of the early repaints Rc2 1087 is seen here visiting Mora in 2001 with a short consist of Lunch break special on tow. In 2005, much of the cars used on these trains are now Hbis-cars, available as H0-model by Roco

GC Rc 2 1087
RC 1087 seem to be a frequent visitor in Mora. As we see this early repaint in various dates during 2001-2003. Of interest is the nice weathering on the platform seen in the spring or early summer images and as the tank cars are running empty on southern direction it is allowed to raise the pantograph in the rear of the engine while a tank car is coupled directly to the engine.

GC Rc 2 1087
One of the repaints, GC Rc4 1087 is visiting Mora as the power of the workday "Lunch Break Special" in 12 of March 2005. The tank car is empty, which allows to be coupled as first car behind the engine.

GC Rc 2 1088
RC 1088 is another common quest in Mora. Still in early years of 21th century GC followed Sj practice by having RC2 in south while having newer Rc4.s in north. In 2005 it is as common to see a Rc4 in freights on Dalecarlian main line as is to see a Rc 2.

GC Rc 2 1088
It is 12 March 2005, and here we see GC Rc4 1088 during switching with a pair consists of pulp wood unit trains. The unit delivers empty cars to the yard in Mora. roll to the other end of the yard where a T44 has deliverd loaded set of cars. Then couples to the cars and... waiting for the signal. The timber trains seem to have lowest priority, so they have to spend alot of times waiting for the access to the mainline.

GC Rc 2 1088
During the fall of 2006m GC took the approach of lunch time activities as they usually do in spring. That is combineing the power for the later two south bound train as a double header on a earlier northbound train of empty timber cars. One noteful thing is that thegreen repaints are now as common as the blue bandits. I guess it will not be not to long the bandits will be rare spieces. Mora 12 of october 2006.

GC Rc 2 1089
RC 1089 is in charge of a "Lunch Break Special". The tank cars are commonly pool cars from Germany and Austria.

GC Rc 2 1089
Borlänge is a fasinating place to watch trains but as the yard is huge with a limit chanche of overviewing it is very easy to miss some action. One of the best places to see trains is at the hump, which occationaööy sees regular train passing before entering one of the main lines out of city. Such is the case with this creaping train with GC Rc2 1089 on the lead on its beginning on its trip to south.

GC Rc 2 1089
GC Rc 1089 has arrived with Rc2 1076 to Mora and is caught while a switch move to the todays edition of "The Lunch Break Special" out of mora on 13.th of October 2006.

GC Rc 2 1089
It is rather funny how weather can change rather rapidly. Few days ago, the ground was so barren and everything pretty dull A couple blizzards later everything changed. By the way GC RC2 1089 was in Mora waiting to leave the town with "Lunch Break Special" in 15th January 2007.

GC Rc 2 1090
It is March 0f 2005. and the rays of sun is start to feel warm and finally it is rather nice being outdoors with out doing anything. Still, Green Gargo is doing what they do best, keep the freight trains on the job. Todays power for Lunch Break Special is a Blue Bandit Rc4 1090.

GC Rc 2 1090
Some nine months later, 17th of January 2006, the Rc 2 1090 is back in Mora with a another pike sized consist.

GC Rc 2 1090
Allmost at same spot, allmost a month later, 16.February 2006 Rc 1090 is back in Mora with another this time heavy consist of the "Lunch Break Special".

GC Rc 2 1091
The GC Rc2 1091 is today hauling with a repainted sister the Lunch Break Special.
2007-08-22 Mora.

GC Rc 2 1092
Rc2 1092 is in hand with a unit timber train in Mora 21. November 2004. The switching of the two trainssets are pretty much fun to look at. In the 1990.s, there were a lot of terminals for storing timber. But as usual, the quest of being efficent has had its toll. All but one, located a few kilometers west of Mora are now closed and everything is concentrated there.

GC Rc 2 1092
The blue bandit GC Rc2 1092 is having the honors off hauling the hot "Lunch Break Special" today from Mora. The date is 8th of June 2006.

GC Rc 2 1092
Since 2008, it is anorm that two earlier separate freight trains athe "Lunch Break Special" and the following timber trai are comined to a lengthy version of a freight needing usually two units. Today , Rc2 1092 with its sister Rc2 1095 has hauled an empty consist of timber cars and coupled not only to the loaded cars but with a cut of loaded Hbis cars of milled or sawed timber.
Mora 2009-03-20.

GC Rc 2 1093
RC 1093 is entering Mora with empty consist of timber cars. The Siljan Såg at Noret, some houndred meters to east of the yard is a major shipper of wood products, but the loads of raw timber originates from a large timber terminal located a couple of kilometers west of town. The customers are paper mills in south and perhaps some will be exported abroad.

GC Rc 2 1093
GC Rc2 1093 is back in Mora and again handles a unit wood chip cars. These cars are usually spotted in western part of this at times rather cramped yard. The train originates from a loading terminal and saw mill on Älvdalen line . But as the line from Mora to the terminal is not electrified, the train is huled to the station by T44 unit. At Mora the more powerful electric takes over. Usualy just before the electric leaves with its loaded set, the diesel delivers the new empty cars brought by the Rc unit from south.

GC Rc 2 1093
GC Rc2 1093 is back again in Mora but since the last visit it has been repainted to the current green scheme of Green Gargo. Here along with a still in SJ blue painted sister it is slowly rolling and gaining more speed as its journey to Borlänge has just begun.
2007-08-28 Mora.

GC Rc 2 1094
Summer is here with bright green grass and warm shades of foliage in trees. Still it is business as usual for Green Gargos fleet of Rc2.s and here Rc21094 is waiting patiently for permit to head out to the mainline from Mora. The load consists of wood chips which is loaded at the large mill of Siljan Sågen at Noret.

GC Rc 2 1094
Here the Rc2 1094 is seen at the engine terminal of Borlänge in summer of 2002.

GC Rc 2 1094
It is 18th of April 2006 and Green Gargo blue bandit Rc2 1094 is backing to waiting loaded timber train at Mora.

GC Rc 2 1095
Rc2 1095 is in hand with a the Lunch Time freight. Today is a bit special as the snow is here, perfectly timed for the start of the Christmass season.

On the final image the engine just arrived with a unit train of wood chips. Mora 16. May 2005. .

GC Rc 2 1095
GC Rc2 will have a lenghty wait before returning south with a not so hot consist of timber. First there will be a regional run to enter the yard and move slowly to the flag stop in the centre of town and return, pick up passangers and ride south to Borlänge. There is another hotter train of Lunch Time Specail which will before GC Rc2 1095 will get the attention from the signal to its turn. Mora 2007-01-10.

GC Rc 2 1095
In early 2009, it is no longer obvious to find a pair of blue unmodified rc units MU.ed together on a freight. But such was the occation today, which was a dark and gray day in alte March. The spring is late this year.. The other unit is by the way Rc2 1092. Mora 2009-03-20

GC Rc 2 1096
These few images of Rc2 1096 are shot in Borlänge engine terminal, and in late February 2002 in Gävle.

GC Rc 2 1096
A bright, recently? repainted GC Rc2 1096 is waiting its turn to enter the southbound mainline with a unit train of timber in a very sunny and reasonable warm 2.nd of May 2005.

GC Rc 2 1097
A appearently recent repaint in shining looks though cloudy weather Rc 2 1097 is waithing to enter the mainline out of Mora yard in 18th January 2006.

GC Rc 2 1097
It is now a norm to use double header for the mid day freight. Another thing hat has become very much norm is the mix of colors on the engines, here repainted Rc2 1097 is to lead its younger sister Rc4 1314 in mixed consist of timber products.

GC Rc 2 1098
A cloudy day, but the temperature is above the freezing point in Mora on 12th of March 2005 as Rc2 1098 is about to leave with a timber unit train.

GC Rc 2 1098
Rc2 1098 is waiting its turn to get on the mainline with a very short freight of mere six cars. Mora 2007-02-12.

GC Rc 2 1100
It is a rather lousy weather, and it appears that the business is slow as there is only a handful cars coupled to Rc2 1100 in Mora. Mora in 4th of December 2004.

It is bit more comfortable in first day of May 2005 roughly about the same spot but with a different train on this last picture.

GG Rc2 1031
It is early fall and there is no trouble of fallen leaves for weeks as two Rc.s are to haul a long mixed freight of general freight and timber out of Mora. The lead unit is one of the oldest road unit in service GC Rc2 1031, followed by a younger sister GC Rc2 1100.

GC Rc2 1101
Rc2 1101 as a second unit on an empty timber train in early November 2006.

GC Rc2 1101
Rc2 1101 is the lead unit on the combined midday freight, I guess this sight with two green GC units will be a common thing not to far off in the futre, unless GC merges or desides the time has come to purchase new units. Mora 2007-03-26.

GC Rc 2 1101
It is cold, dark and raining, and the action here at one of the busiest yards in Sweden is not so busy. The plan was take a lot of pictures here on freight sitting in a hole in this busy junction. So I had to practice on pan shots with bad results, this one on GC Rc2 1101 was only one that came out acceptable. Avesta/Krylbo 2007-05-18.

GC Rc 2 1101

GC Rc 2 1102
Still in blue,Rc2 1102 is waiting for green light for departure from Mora with "a unit timber train in 8th of june 2006. The engine arrived with a combined consist with empties with RC2 1092 where the engiens were split and coupled to their waiting consists.

GC Rc2 1103
A run around move is finished in the west end of the busy and crowded yard of Mora 12 of March 2005. Appearently it is time for another unit train of timber as the train patiently waits for signal to turn green.

The last pics of the same unit is back in Mora seen here during a run around move in 21.th of May 2005.

GC Rc2 1104
Rc4 1104 arriving to Mora with a double header.

GC Rc2 1105
Rc4 1105 seen here in Mora and image below in Falun in late winterscape.

GC Rc2 1105
It is sunny, and the on coming spring is about to get a deadly grip on winter in 22.th of February 2005. The town is in middle of Wasa Ski run frenzy, tents and temporary pavilions are built in town but the station which is actually built off center of town will have a few calm days before the special trains arrive. Rc 2 1105 is about to leave the town with a freight.

GC Rc2 1105
It is 9th of February 2006, and Bandit Blue Rc 2 1105 is ready to leave with a short version of Lunch Break Special from Mora.

GC Rc2 1106

GC Rc2 1107
Rc4 1107 is seen here resting at the engine terminal in a cloudy summer day.

CG Rc2 1107
The daily freight with GC Rc4 1188 and Rc2 1107 is parked behind small set of transformers at the yard of Mora. The units will back with a cut of cars to the arriving transfer of timber cars from a timber terminal west of the town. Mora 2009-04-21.

GC Rc 2 1108
GC Rc4 1108 is one of the later days road switcher convertions caught here with a tele lence in Mora in 11.th January 2007.

CG Rc2 1108
The spring leaves are just a few days he progress on the spring around end of the April was fast. Still the sisters Rc2 1107 and Rc2 1108 have a lot work to do before calling it a day. Mora 2009-04-21.

GC Rc2 1109
Rc4 1109 in Mora. The diagonal stripe indicates this engine as one of the remote control road units. Also noteabel on these R/C units are the switching platforms at the buffer corners.

GC Rc2 1110
The Rc2 1110 in Mora in two different occations, on the second propably in summer of 2005 when the northbound counterpart to "Lunch Break Special" was double headed with a unit for power for the pulpwood train which left the yard some thirty minutes later than hotter "Lunch break...".

GC Rc2 1110
Some three years laters the engine has been modified in to a Remote Control version and has received the diagnal stripe over the enigne compartment and switching platform at the ends. Still It sees road service and here it is waiting for its set of loaded wood chip container cars from the saw mill.
Mora 2007-10-11

GC Rc2 1110
Coming and gone is seconds... Hearing a freight was coming a great time before they appeard, and didn't have better photo opportunity than this by the old section house in Garsås. Rcs 1110 and a repainted sister was thundering away with its heavy load of freight from Mora-. Garsås 2009-05-11
Mora 2009-10-11

GC Rc2 1111
Rc2 1111 or "Four Aces" has with a sister Rc4 1192 delivered a heavy train of raw steel to the yard of Borlänge in 13. May 2006. As you see on the switching platforms and an extra diagonal stripe, the engine is on of the pool of remote control units. Once cut of the train switchers has taken over and the units gets a rest before returning with an empty train set.

GG Rc2 1111
The Mega Lunch is not the only train to need two engines, the morning train of wood chips sometimes get heavy enough to use two engines. The second engine is the Four Aces, GC Rc2 1111, now rebuilt as a remote control unit.
2007-08-27 Mora.

GG Rc2 1111
The Four Aces, Rc2 1111 is another convert to remote control road switchers as it is trailing Rc4 1177 out of Mora on 13th March with the usual Mega lunch consist. The May have not s far offered any great weather for photography and and compared to the end of April, much cooler too. Question is if any of these twos are to under goa a remanufactoring to modernized Rd classes, now as GC is expecting a totally new units in form of German designed Re-class?
Mora 2009-05-13.

GC Rc2 1112
The three color schemes of Green Gargo in one shot. The orange original of the Rc.s disappeared in 2005 and these were repainted in green. But still there are a quite a few that still carries blue of SJ. But in recent months a number of them are now in green paint.

GC Rc2 1112
Finally the winter is beaten and there is more and more warmer and less and less snow. ON GC it is business as usual as two Rc.s are leading a heavy freight to south.
Mora 2009-04-15.

GC Rc2 1112
Finally the Such a difference a few weeks does! It is early in May and the temperature much wrmer and the leaves has allready sprung out. But few things remain the same as there is soon a departutr time and Rc2 1112 on the lead, the second unit this time is Rc4 1270.
Mora 2009-05-06.

GC Rc2 1113
A road switcher converted Rc2 1113 is a rare bird in Mora in 18. of June 2005. There are a number of Rc.s that have converted this way. The diagonal extra stripe stands for a remote controlable unit and the switching platforms are to ease the crew of one person during switching at larger plants and after the work is done, engine enters the cab and the unit is like any regular Rc unit.

SJ Rc2 1114
Rc2 seen here is still a SJ unit though repainted in new blue scheme. Here it is resting in Mora after work in late 1990.s

SJ Rc 2 1114

GC Rc2 1114
A look at Rc2 1114 in the original version of blue scheme. At this date the unit is still under SJ.s ownership, sporting SJ.s new logo. The engine is seen here at the yard of Mora.

In summer of 2002 at Borlänge, the SJ logos are covered with new decals for the current national freight operator, Green Gargo in a hot summer day.

At the final shot the engine heading a freight and is passing Storvik on a westbound freight in late February 2002.

GC Rc2 1115
GC Rc2 1115 is waiting for the departure with midday freight in Mora.

GC Rc2 1115

GC Rc4 1198 & Rc2 1115
The arrivial of a light but lengthy freight around noon with a double headed freight causes a bit of a show in Mora. As the power are split to two different trains, a general freight and one unit train of timber. And the empti timber cars handled to the timber terminal just west of town by the switcher. Today the combined power consisted of two road switcher converted Rc.s of two different paint and generations.
Mora 2007-01-18

GC Rc2 1115
It is Mega Lunch time, and indeed a lunch time for Rc2 1115 and her green painted younger sister Rc4 1279 on track 2 in Mora. As the consist was parked in a way that the engines were blocked by a transformer, I sneaked to the track two though the barricades were down. The yard was dead and there was no sign of a coming train..
Mora 2009-05-14.

GC Rc2 1115
GC Rc2 1115 It is a very cold day, but the GC Rc2 1115 is sporting a very clean and spotless shape of the old blue paint from the days when the unit was a one of the many units in SJ fleet. Never the less its good shape, it is one of the blue collar work horses of Green Cargo fleet and here it is waiting on its turn on the mainline to the south with another unit train of timber. The date is my 50. Birthday! Mora 2010-02-24.

GC Rc 2 1116 & Rc2 1126

Coming, Going and Gone.

The aftermaths of the devasteting storm named Gudrun, caused heavy damage in forresting in southern Sweden. To harvest and save most of the damage a gigantic chain of transportation was created and the saw and paper mills were working flat out to make most of the fallen timber. The best way of mass transportation is inland by train, it is reliable, fast and with a network thtat conviently ties all the mills in the country, at least most of them. One of these train was sitting in a hole in Borlnge in mid of another kind of blizzard, a heavy snow fallwhich accidently had a bit of a coffee break while radio controlled road units Rc 1116 and Rc 1126 was permitted to the main line for Falun and to north east. The cold weather had added a bit of extra friction as the train accelarated slowly, just a few feet from the parking lot I was located. The train looked, at this angle like a smoothr running model train gaining slowly some speed right at your nose.

The location is the parking lot for the head quarters of Banverket, which is the national organisation that maintains all track that is not regional in Sweden. There was a pretty impressive set of NO PARKING signs here but as I was right next of my car so there was no problem. It is the one of best photo spots around that vast yard. Borlänge 11. March 2006.

GC Rc 2 1117
Rc2 1117 in Mora with an empty set of pulpwood cars. To see an Rc with unflamable load with the front pantograph raised is a rather rare occation.

Ont the image below, the engine is spotted at the engine terminal of Borlänge.

GC Rc 2 1117
All the engines, at least most of them, used on freight duty by Green Gargo are stationed at Borlänge. They are used on all kinds of heavy freight in the county. Such is the case with Rc2 1117 waiting for the green signal for departure in Mora.

GC Rc2 1117 -Rc2 1042 - T44 401
Change of guards
Every now and then the T44.s in Mora are exchanged with a new serviced unit from Borlänge. This time the exchange is on a Friday when T44 401, dead in tow will have its turn on switching, locals and some transfer duty in Mora. The first duty will be no doubt be delivery of the empty timber racks to the timber terminal a few kilometers on the former Inland line section south of Mora.

In February Gc changed some of its pattern on freight service. The freight which I have called "Lunch Time Special" has been merged with the unit timber train which left the town around one hour later. The reason is I guess the loss of tonnage during the winter months but I guess once the business picks up, GC will run the sections as separate trains again. The limitation is the cramped yard in Mora. 2007-02-02.

GC Rc2 1117
Another convert, the Rc2 1117 has since the last time been modified as road switcher with a remote control, sporting the switching platoform and a diagonal stripe. Here the enigne is seen on a heavy combined train with general freight and raw timber.

Not exactly the nicest weather and it really feels like fall. The hockey season has begun, but unaware of this sensation it is business as usual. Here a green Rc4 1275 with a remote control unit, GC Rc2 1118 is waiting for the high ball with a lengthy set of freight.

GC Rc 2 1120
A serie of photos of switching of the train sets of timber in Mora in 4th of February 2005. The winter so far was low on snow, though the temperature was down. The arrangers of the Wasa Ski Run was dealing with the unthinkable, canceling the 92 kilometer ski run. But within days a blizzard brought more than enough of snow and soon the Mora was once again transfered in to a ski resort.

On the two final images the engine is back in Mora with train of timber waiting for a signal to the mainline to south. Date 12.th of March 2005.

GC Rc2 1120
GC Rc2 1115 The winter of 2009/2010 was very cold and with a plenty of snow, it put alot of strain to the trains and double heading on trains that usually found a single unit enough become a norm. Though here we see the more usual double headed train on the very first warm day of the spring and the switching platform provides the engineer a nice seat to enjoy the sun before the Lunch Break Special about to leave Mora in 2010-03-08.

GC Rc 2 1121
The spring is here with enjoyable temperature and within days the trees are transformed with light green fresh leafs. The timber trasnport works regulary, with two or more round trips every day.

GC Rc 2 1122
It is the very last day of November 2011 and The Lunch Break Special with its consist of lumber products and timber is waiting for the green light to move the entire long consist by itself, which is now a rare occation as normally two units are used to haul the train. Though it is noon and a one or two degrees below zero degrees Celsius, the winter is not that appearent, except for the low noon sun. Since the last sighting the venerable unit has been repainted in green and received the new international road number.
Mora 2011-11-30

GC Rc 2 1123
GC Rc2 1122 with "Lunch Break Special" on second day of MAy 2005. Still in this day, the trains is greatly dominated by earlier type of Sj designed all door box cars. These cars unlike later designs are eguipped with four instead of now more common two loading doors. It appears thaat the earlier type of cars arre phasing out of the roster in 2006.

GC Rc 2 1124

GC Rc 2 1126
GC Rc2 1126 is enjoying rest at the Borlänge engine terminal in 10th of November 2004.

GC Rc 2 1126
GC Rc2 1126 Over 4 year time it seems that GC Rc2 1126 have not made much of changes as it is the second unit on a all bluebandit lash up of two unmodified to remote control blue bandits as they just rolled the final meters ahead of a mixed freight consist in to yard of Mota. As the winter has been very cold during 2008/2009 it is very common to see two units on each freight train. Mora 2009-02-10.

GC Rc 2 1126
Rc2 1126 abd Rc2 1117 are on the charge of the "Lunch Break Special", which is now very uncommon, but the reason I believe is as it has been cold for a while, the usual consist of general freight and the timber train cut has been separated. I did not see the train departure but it is unusual sight to see two pairs of freight Rc.s in Mora at once. Mora 2009-03-11.

GC Rc 2 1127
In 2005 a new idea of bringing the power for two southbound freight trains as power on one north bound train. Perhaps it did not fair well as later on the trains are run in same way as before. A train with one unit arrives, switching over to its southbound counterpart and rolled of the town. Mora 4th of October 2004.

GC Rc 2 1127
GC Rc4 1127 has since last time been converted to a road switcher and has ben coupled of its north bound train and another coverted Road switcher version of Rc2, 1108 and is ready to back to the opposite train to be swithced as power for the hottest freight on the line. The "Lunch Break Special". Mora 2007-01-11.

GC Rc 2 1128
It is a sunny day when The freight engines of used on the Dalecarlian mainline are housed in Borlänge. During the weekends there you will find quite a few engines having time off duty just as Rc2 1128 seen here.

GC Rc 2 1128
One cool thing about taking these pics is to see what a year or few does. The paint job has been weathered and the engine seems to be pretty resently modified for remote control operation. The visisble mods are the switching platforms normally found on the active Rc1.s The newly painted diagonal stripe also tells that this is a remote control unit. Mora 2006-10-06.

GC Rc 2 1129
Rc2 1192 is here dispalying both orange and and blue scheme in Mora. The first car on the following images is owned by local gravel company, not a success I guesS, as I have seen it only this occation doing something else than sitting on the yard in Mora.

GC Rc 2 1132
GC Rc2 1132 in freight service at Mora in 16th of May 2005. Today, the train is also having a set of GC red cars that are marked as PKP ownership. These cars were used to haul timber. Appearently GC was short of lumber cars.

GC Rc 2 1133
Rc2 1133 is slowing down at the crowded yard limits of Rättvik with a train of pulp wood on early August 2003. The reason for comotion is a huge cruising in town and there are people anywhere and it is easy to loose the attention to the advancing train.
To the first section, Rc2 1027-1035
