 Norwegian Diesels

When leaving southbound I saw this small diesel moving a BF13-class combine to the transfer table at
Marieborg. The sole passanger car really dwarfed the critter, but it looked quite good in the NSB
official red and yellow standard colors of the larger hood units.

The next generarion of critters were larger, yet very small and were designed to be used on light branchline services and light switchers.
But as the branchlines were shut down, they proved to be exellent for light services in MoW
duties and as such this unit was looking healthy at Marieborg shops in August 2003.
At first day of June, considered as the first summer day, it is a bit different to hang around
a shop area... Anyway the unit sees a bit of work while towing a diesel to a spin on a turntable.

I was wondering why in earth a company that specializied in helper service out of Narvik on those very heavy trains would do with something like this. Naturally they need an engine strong enough but small to shift the engines arond in Hamar. 28/8 2006 Hamar.

What is this?, electric or diesel? The critters are prone to variations to suit to the needs.
Sometimes, or more often you take a basic design and alter under the hood. it is actually a diesel with a pantograph, my guess is either it and her sisters of Skd 220b-class were used om catenary MOW duties. Dombås in 1996.

There seemed be jobs on branch lines that needed these small units to replace steam after WWII. One of these have been restored to new glory is located in Otta. 30/8 2006.

Just like SJ,in the post WW II NSB needed a small diesel to "go to all" services like lightduty on branch lines or switching at plants and samll yards. In the eighties many were repainted in to this nifty red cab and yellow hoods just like the larger Di2,Di5 and Di8.s

While the passanger trains are swicthed by a vereable Di2, the CargoNet uses punier power but combined in to a lash up, will
provide enough power to even work the hump. The new scheme however, is bit hard to shoot against a sun.

For a critter, the Skl 226.s do have a rather impressive looks, though no way to be misstaken for a road unit.

SJ had surplus of Z66 light power and NSB had a shortage of switchers when the Di5.s phased out.
The solution was to buy a number second hand from Sweden repaint them in to the new current scheme and
use them solo or Mu.ed in pairs like in Trondheim, where they are used side by side with much older Di2.s.

1.st September Skl 226.03 is struggling with a fully loaded consist from Oslo over the hump just next of the rather cramped yard of Trondheim.
The Skl 226.s handle all the freight switching duties here while a venerable Di2 handles the passenger switching.
