Back to Tallås and Pallanite,

Jädraås

This track plan shows the Jädraås yard as in 1910. This track plan is as most of the information on Jädraås and DONJ from a book by Rolf Sten, called "Från Inlandet Till Kusten" (From The Inland To The Coast). There have been changes during the time but does excellently give the general idea of the yard as it is present At the lower end is the location of the Iron ore yard built to serve the blast furnace right out of the track plan. This part was shortly dismantled after the furnaces ceased operation. The building looking like an H is the station and to right followed by the original layout of various shop buildings followed by the roundhouse.

As most of the experienced modellers notice that there are a plenty of trackage, which would be rather space consuming, But every track here serves a purpose and it would make it whole difficult to cut out the tracks to be able to squeeze to a much moderate spaces. But Jädraås shows a general idea of how an operational headquarters and periodic shops looked like on a short line that expanded during the time. As there are no kits of the rolling stock available, nor much of the equipment as kits to duplicate this would take a lot of time to create. But you can always modify elements here to suit to your needs and requirements

Pallanite

Originally Pallanite did have a passage track and my best guess is that the current station or flag stop is located few hundred yards to right after where the tracks ends on the track plan. In my opinion this original one is more interesting. A very short branch to a small sawmill built next to a dam. According studying the current site I could not find any evidence of any of the trackage. The current station is located next to a water driven power station which appears on some photos be a small distance away from the former sawmill. Never the less the arrangement here would make a different looking scene on any layout.

Tallås

Tallås on the other hand is located where it was during the heydays, though the reconstructed trackage on the yard seem to be a bit shorter and lacking the third run around spur for the loading dock on the upper part of yard. Included on this plan is the trackage to west, including a bridge over a stream and a short 400 meters long branch to the gravel quarry. This trackage still remains, ending at the quarry as 2 tracks stub yard, filled with future renovation projects

Just a couple hundred meters east there was originally a log loading area. The log was transported by the steam donkey during the high waters in spring and loaded to cars and hauled way..

In 1936 the yard was modified with extended passing track to the log loading switch in order to make the operation here more rational. Note that the third track lost one of the turnouts and extended. Buildings here and rest of the track plans are outhouse/freight station The depot with a cellar located to the south.
