Morastrand

Mora.

Morastrand is located in the "downtown area" of Mora and is the newest station on the Inlandsbanan, opened as late as 1990.s..

The abandoned section of Inland line, Mora - Brintbodarna

Mora

Mora.

Mora is the southern terminal of the Inland line. The yard and operations are discussed on separate page just click here.

Orsa

Orsa.

Orsa is located 17 kilometers north of Mora, Click here for more on Orsa.

Just north of Orsa is Born, which has a large sectionhouse. and the track is a tangent to the crossing of River Emån. Here you will find a small sawmill converted to fishfarm with a small restaurant. On this site you will find a RPO baggage trailer for Y6-8 generation DMU.s used as a shed.

The bridge over the river looks a bit a odd, but is a resultat of flood that swept away a span. The new one one is of modern concrete construction.

Tallhed

Tallhed.

Tallhed is located 12 kilometers north of Orsa, and has rather unique background as it was appearently used for loading for the construction of a war time military airstrip during WW II. The yard itself clearly shows this as a couple of warehouses are directly located on the shorter siding.

The depot is unique as it is the original depot dated to the opening of the privately owned Orsa-Herjedalen RR. Which was nationalized in the early 20th century as part of the Inland line. In most of the stops and stations along the line new and larger depot replaced the picturesque orginal buildings.

Storstupet

Storstupet.

Few kilometers north of Tallhed is Storstupet. Which is the beginning of the route on the walls of this gorge along river Emån. At the Storstupet the rails enter in to the scene in grand scale, by crossing the gorge on this span. The touristtrains have scheduled photostop on this site.

Emådalen, the section house and watertower at highway 45

Emådalen watertower and section house.

Emådalen is located at 26 kilometers north of Orsa.
The line between Tallhed and Emådalen is perhaps the most scenic part of the line towards Sveg, and it is allmost a uphill grade all the way. Few kilometers north of Tallhed the rails cross the river Emån over steel arch over the gorge, and follows the gorge to the Emådalen section house and adjoining watertower which is located at the steep intersection with highway 45.

The tank itself as its sisters along the line enclosed, to battle with the freezing cold winters in the area. It is not uncommon with periods of minus 25 or more. The section houseis of larger type than what is commonalong the line. On the opposite side from the highway, is a steep slope to a small stream, which may have been the source of water to the watertower.

Emådalen

Emådalen.

The station is located just a few hundred meters north of the section house, but during this short stretch the scenery changes. To the west, there is a swamp and to east few cottages and plenty of woods. I was at first supriced about the fact that the depot is rather large for this small yard of only three swiches and the hamlet itself sure did not generate much of revenue. But as the location is at the end of a long grade, a stop was a necessery for the steamers and on the opposite direction perhaps to cool the breaks. The depot is of same blueprint as I found in Tandsjöborg and Fågelsjö further up the north.

There is more standard features with the yards are rather long as the line was considered as a vital part of national defence. But there are few changes from the opening of the line, such as the short siding has lost its second turnout. I found few evidences of this switch but can not be to certain of this. As the ground is mostly of gravel and the vegetation is sparse anyway.

Tandhem section house

Tandhem section house.

About a kilometer south of Tandsjöborg, is the location of this section house. Compared to the one in Emådalen it is smaller, as the it only served the highway crossing and because the watertower is located at the yard.

Tandsjöborg

Tandsjöborg.

This is the most scenic station of the stations discussed here. The yard is mostly gone, but is shaped in reveresed S shape. It clearly was otherwise decked out like the others. Long passingtrack/siding and shorter one at the standard loading dock.

To the east there is mostly steep hillside which to the site has been used for gravel loading. On west there is a sharp bay that has dictated the yard and the line beoynd to the north is located on a steep bank

One thing on the photos, It was a on going storm during this day the white stuff flying around here is nor snow or downdrop, it was hail, which effectively prevented shots from the north end.

Fågelsjö

Fågelsjö.

Pretty much the same as in Emådalen except for the yard is a mirrow image of Emådalen, the setting is allmost same, the hamlet is a bit bigger, but just a few cottages and couple of small farms.

Even the swamp across the depot is there. The area here is more level than in Emådalen, and the depot is as in Emådalen a private residence. The station is still serviced by the touristrains during ths summer and the railroad company has constructed a modest set of buildings to this purpose.

A small low wooden timbered hut and a new track "office" to the crews to handle sandwiches, coffee and beverage to the passengers.

Sweg

The end of this section......
This fairly large & interesting yard will perhaps be featured in later installament.
